Philadelphia 1938 - Joe works for an American charity that helps bring food and medicine to the children of Europe. His ‘gift of the gab’ is legendary. His professional life is a resounding success but behind the scenes his marriage is a disaster. Wanting more, he persuades kind-hearted Elizabeth – a hospital administrator - to come with him in Spain, where a civil war rages, and together they set up a children’s hospital.
France, 1940 - As fascism takes hold and Europe is pulled into the whirlpool of World War II, their life turns into a fight for survival. Elizabeth must relocate to the South of France, where the children of Europe have never been in more danger. She and Joe must risk everything to help those suffering around them. In doing so, will they be parted forever?
